Darren Wood

Bio

Darren Wood is entering his third season at Union and his 19th year coaching, serving as the Varsity Defensive Line Coach. A Southeast Portland native and 2003 David Douglas graduate, Darren went on to play offensive line at Portland State, where he was a four-year letterman. His coaching career has included stops at David Douglas, Central Catholic, and Union, with nearly two decades of experience working with offensive and defensive linemen.

For Darren, coaching is about helping young men grow both on and off the field. He values honesty, integrity, communication, and a willingness to be coached, and he enjoys seeing players build the confidence to do things they once didn’t think they could do. Growing up in the home of a head football coach and educator had a major influence on the way he approaches coaching today.

Outside of football, Darren works in construction management, owns businesses in Oregon City and Vancouver, and enjoys traveling with his wife Sarah, spending time outdoors, and cooking. A few things people may not know about him: he co-owns multiple hair salons, has flown a plane, and is an Eagle Scout.
