Shawn Massey

Bio

Shawn Massey is entering his first year with Union as the JV2 offensive and defensive line coach, bringing 14 years of coaching experience to the program. A Vancouver native and Evergreen High School graduate, Shawn grew up playing football through CCYF before continuing at Evergreen. He later returned to CCYF as a coach, serving in both head coaching and assistant coaching roles.

Shawn was inspired to begin coaching by his wife, and coaching gave him the opportunity to work with both of his sons along the way. He enjoys teaching players the game through hard work, competitiveness, sportsmanship, and accountability, while watching them grow in confidence throughout the season. He hopes players come away from their time with him understanding the importance of brotherhood and family, while also remembering that football should be fun, even when it’s challenging.

His coaching philosophy has been shaped by lessons from former coaches including Terry Hyde, Mark Rego, Mike Sanders, and Don Reed. Shawn values players who are coachable, work hard, give consistent effort, and hold themselves accountable to the team. One of his favorite football memories is getting the chance to suit up alongside both of his brothers. And on game day, there’s one must-have: an XL BR Mexi Mocha.
