Steve Pyne

Bio

Steve Pyne is entering his third season as Union’s Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator, bringing 38 years of high school coaching experience across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. A Vancouver native and David Douglas graduate, he played at Western Oregon before beginning a coaching career that has included stops at David Douglas, Corvallis, Emmett, Wilson, Central Catholic, and now Union.

Before coming to Union, Coach Pyne spent 21 seasons as the head coach at Central Catholic, where his teams won five 6A state championships and regularly competed deep into the postseason. He’s also been recognized multiple times as a conference and state coach of the year and has coached in national all-star events.

For Coach Pyne, the biggest part of coaching is the impact it can have beyond football. He wants players to leave knowing they were loved, challenged, and held accountable, and he values selflessness above all else. His own high school coach, George Rallis, helped shape that philosophy through lessons in discipline, kindness, humility, and putting others first.

Away from football, Steve enjoys time at the beach, golfing, and dinner with family and friends. He and his wife Erica have been married for 33 years and have two adult children, Zach and Allison. One thing people might not expect from a longtime head coach: he considers himself very much an introvert.

And on game day, the routine is simple and consistent: the same clothes, every single game (they're clean!)
